FOUNDATION FOR COUNSELING

Cheryl draws from her extensive Creative Arts Therapy background to help individuals access and express images, intuitions and feelings which are often suppressed by familial and cultural conditioning. These therapies combined with traditional verbal psychotherapy facilitate healing through establishing a relationship with the unconscious, by deepening self awareness and increasing self expression. Through this process one is able to discern constructive thoughts and behaviors from self defeating ones. She believes people learn through action and interaction and heal naturally when able to tune into the resources within themselves and/or a group environment to make the changes needed to live their lives fully. As a psychotherapist, she is committed to facilitating the creativity and empowerment of each individual to respond in new ways to their problems, dreams and life challenges.

Cheryl's philosophy of counseling is grounded in Existentialism which emphasizes the uniqueness and personal responsibility of each human being who is free to make their own self-defining choices in life. In her therapeutic approach, she believes as one begins to pay attention to their own narrative patterns around which they structure their life, they will be able to take charge, revise, refine, and become the author and creator of the possibilities in rewriting their life script. She is mindful that healing is a journey and honors each individuals unique dance upon that path.
